Kyrgyzstan negotiates construction of pharmaceutical plants

The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan is working to address the issue of drug supply, Health Minister Damir Osmonov told reporters.

According to him, the country has a pharmaceutical plant Biovit.

«However, Kyrgyzstan cannot produce the full range of medicines. Firstly, it is a very expensive undertaking, and secondly, production for a population of seven million is not feasible. However, we are conducting international negotiations within the framework of public-private partnership to build pharmaceutical plants in the country,» Damir Osmonov said.

He noted that the state enterprise Kyrgyzfarmatsiya has been provided with new premises, as previously staff worked in cramped conditions. In addition, 12 specialized vehicles have been purchased for the transportation of medicines and medical devices, and work is underway on constructing a modern warehouse that meets international standards.

Kyrgyzfarmatsiya supplies medicines to state hospitals. The rest of the population is offered access to medications through the state pharmacy network El Aman, although not the full range of drugs is available there.
