3,500 residents gain access to clean water in Leilek district

Construction of a drinking water supply system has been completed in the village of Muras in Leilek district of Batken region. As a result, approximately 3,500 residents now have access to clean drinking water, the office of Presidential Envoy to the region reported.

Mamyrzhan Rakhimov, Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in Batken region, noted the strategic importance of modernization of water supply systems for the region’s socioeconomic development and expressed gratitude to the Cabinet of Ministers, government agencies, and the World Bank for their support of the project.

A program to improve access to clean drinking water, modernize water management, and develop regional infrastructure is being implemented in 29 villages in Batken region. It is being implemented as part of the Climate-Resilient Water Services project in collaboration between the Cabinet of Ministers and the World Bank.

The total funding amount is $100 million. Of this, $48 million was allocated to provide villages of Batken and Issyk-Kul regions with drinking water and sanitation systems, and another $52 million was allocated to modernize irrigation and drainage systems in Batken, Jalal-Abad, and Osh regions.
