Reduced tariff set for transportation of sugar beet by rail in Kyrgyzstan

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Bakyt Torobaev, checked the readiness of Chui-Tokmok receiving point for a new crop of sugar beets. Press service of the Cabinet of ministers reported.

This year, a significant harvest of sugar beets is expected, the harvesting of which continues. Farmers are expected to harvest up to 480,000 tons by the end of the year.

In order to support sugar beet growers and complete processing of the grown crop, it was decided to set a reduced tariff for intra-republican rail transportation of sugar beet at the level of 2016.

«Thanks to a good harvest, domestic sugar factories will produce more than 62,000 tons of granulated sugar, which will meet the needs of the domestic market by 50 percent. At the same time, in order to maintain high yields, our farmers need in the future, first within the framework of pilot projects, to more actively apply modern technologies in agriculture, including moisture conservation,» said Bakyt Torobaev.

Representatives of Kaindy-Kant and Koshoi joint-stock companies proposed to approve preferential tariffs for the rail transportation of sugar beet for a period of 5 years, which will allow farmers to confidently expand the sugar beet areas in order to increase the yield to 800,000 tons of sugar. This will meet the country’s domestic needs for granulated sugar by 100 percent, eliminating the risks associated with the emergence of a shortage and the subsequent import of sugar.
