Kyrgyzstan increases exports of cosmetics, bags and clothing to Russia

Textile products from Kyrgyzstan are presented in Russia under a single brand «Made in Kyrgyzstan». As Alexander Kalinin, president of the all-Russian public organization of small and medium-sized businesses «Support of Russia», noted, dozens of Russian designers and brands cooperate with Kyrgyzstan, preferring to sew their collections at factories in Central Asian countries.

According to him, the garment industry and textile production are very developed in Kyrgyzstan. As a rule, these are economy class clothes — high quality and inexpensive. This explains its popularity, including in Russia.

«In the last decade, trade turnover between the two countries has been growing steadily. Russian exports to the Kyrgyz Republic mainly consist of oil, gas, metals, vehicles for ambulances and fire services, and medicines,» said Alexander Kalinin.

It is noted that Kyrgyzstan remains an important supplier of parallel imported goods. In 2022, the country earned about 36 billion soms from intermediary trade between Russia and third countries. In 2022 and early 2023, the Kyrgyz Republic began exporting more cosmetics, clothing and bags to Russia that reflects imports of these goods from China, Belarus, Turkey and the UAE into the republic. For example, from January to August 2022, Kyrgyzstan sold 50 tons of perfumes to Russia, while during the same period in 2021 — less than one ton.

In 2022, clothing, knitted fabric, fruits and dried fruits, milk and dairy products, vegetables and dried beans were mainly supplied from the Kyrgyz Republic to the Russian Federation. In addition, the country began to export more processed stone, footwear and leather goods, ceramic products, plastics and plastic products, parts and accessories for automobiles and tractors.
