From January to March 2026, at least 425 children under 12 months old died in Kyrgyzstan, a report from the National Statistical Committee says.
The number of infant deaths during the same period in 2025 was 413.
The main causes of death during this period were:
- conditions arising in the perinatal period — 271 children (64 percent of the total number of infant deaths);
- congenital malformations — 81 infants (19 percent);
- respiratory diseases — 46 children (11 percent).
The Ministry of Health is preparing a reform of perinatal services through 2030.
Key development priorities include:
- improving the system for monitoring pregnant women and routing patients;
- revising antenatal care standards with an emphasis on the quality of medical care;
- implementation of modern prenatal screening technologies;
- creation of a genetic laboratory;
- developing family planning efforts.
