On June 15, 2026, the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan detained M.K.Z., director of the state enterprise Central Laboratory under the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Kyrgyz Republic, and placed him in the SCNS pretrial detention facility as part of a criminal investigation into allegations of a scheme to fraudulently register and significantly inflate actual laboratory test results concerning the quality of coal supplied to the Bishkek Heating and Power Plant (HPP).
As a result of these alleged unlawful actions, significant damage has reportedly been caused to the power plant’s technical equipment, as well as to the environmental conditions in Bishkek.
