 FIFA World Cup 2026: Uzbekistan loses to Colombia in opening match

Today, June 18, a Group K match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup took place between the national teams of Uzbekistan and Colombia.

The match was held at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City and was officiated by a refereeing team led by England’s Anthony Taylor.

Colombia opened the scoring in the 40th minute through defender Daniel Muñoz, assisted by Luis Díaz. In the second half, Uzbek midfielder Abbosbek Faizullaev equalized the score. A few minutes later, Luis Díaz put Colombia back in front. Towards the end of the match, midfielder Jáminton Campaz scored the third goal for Colombia.

The final score was 3–1 in favor of Colombia.

Alongside Uzbekistan and Colombia, Portugal and the Republic of the Congo also compete in Group K.

The 2026 World Cup is being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. The reigning world champions are Argentina.
