Kyrgyz Parliament to develop “AI lawyer” to review all draft laws

An artificial intelligence system called an " AI lawyer" is being developed in Kyrgyzstan to analyze draft legislation and identify possible contradictions with existing laws. Speaker of Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Marlen Mamataliev said in an interview with 24.kg news agency.

According to him, artificial intelligence is already being used in the parliament for various tasks, and in the near future it could become an assistant to lawmakers in drafting legislation.

«Today, no living lawyer, no matter how gifted, can remember 3,565 laws and around 22,000 decrees. The AI lawyer will be able to compare a new bill with the entire legislative base and immediately show whether there are contradictions,» he said.

Mamataliev noted that one common problem is inconsistencies between new and existing legal norms. He said AI could significantly reduce such issues.

In addition, the system will be able to generate brief summaries of documents. If a deputy has not had time to review a lengthy draft law, the AI lawyer will present its key points in a concise form.

The Speaker added that the introduction of such technologies is intended to ease parliamentary work and improve the quality of the laws passed.
