Kyrgyzstanis over 18 years old can be tested free of charge for hepatitis B and C in the General Medical Practice Centers or Family Medicine Centers at the place of residence. The Republican Center for Health Promotion and Mass Communication reminds.
According to it, in case of a negative test result, people over 23 years old are provided with a vaccine against viral hepatitis B free of charge.
No special preparation for the testing is required. As with any other examination, blood for testing for viral hepatitis is taken after an overnight fast.
«Patients who already know about the presence of viral hepatitis B or C have to register with a doctor with the provision of all available results of medical examinations to receive free treatment,» the center added.
In the absolute majority of cases, chronic viral hepatitis C is curable. Duration of treatment is three or six months. The main condition is adherence to treatment and compliance with the recommendations of the attending physician.
Treatment for chronic viral hepatitis B is longer (from several months to several years, there may be cases with lifelong treatment). In any case, treatment improves the quality of life of patients and prevents the development of cirrhosis and liver cancer.
