SCO head congratulates Kyrgyzstan on election to UN Security Council

Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Nurlan Yermekbayev congratulated President Sadyr Japarov and the people of Kyrgyzstan on the election of the country as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2027-2028. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

«This significant achievement is convincing evidence of the high international authority of the Kyrgyz Republic, recognition of its consistent contribution to strengthening peace, security, sustainable development and multilateral cooperation.

I am convinced that the participation of the Kyrgyz Republic in the work of the UN Security Council will help promote the principles of mutual respect, equal dialogue and collective search for solutions to pressing international problems, which is consistent with the goals and objectives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

I wish you good health and further success in your government activities, and peace, prosperity and well-being to the friendly people of the Kyrgyz Republic!» the telegram says.

For the first time in its history, Kyrgyzstan was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The republic will be part of one of the main bodies of the international organization in 2027-2028.

The vote took place on June 3 at a meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York. At least 142 states voted for the candidacy of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Philippines, which competed for a seat on the Security Council, received 49 votes.
