China proposes building urea and fertilizer plant in Kyrgyzstan

Chinese companies proposed building a plant for the production of urea and nitrogen fertilizers in Kyrgyzstan. The project was discussed during a working visit by Erlist Akunbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry, to China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

During the visit, Erlist Akunbekov held talks with Hou Qijun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sinopec. The parties discussed the possibility of establishing joint production and processing enterprises in the oil and gas sector, as well as implementing renewable energy projects.

Meetings were also held with executives of CIECC Planning and Design Research Co., Ltd., Beijing Huafu Engineering Co., Ltd., and Shaanxi Construction New Energy Co., Ltd.. The main topic of discussion was the construction of a mineral fertilizer plant in Kyrgyzstan.

The Chinese side presented a project for a facility producing urea and nitrogen fertilizers. According to participants in the talks, its implementation would help provide Kyrgyz farmers with domestically produced mineral fertilizers, strengthen the country’s food security, and create new opportunities for industrial development.
